This program pairs up a specialist or resource teacher and a parent volunteer throughout the year to complete routine and special projects (copying, filing, assembling packets, laminating). Give our children the gift of reading! Two book fairs are held each year in the media center and feature a wide selection of children and adult books for purchase. The 2007 – 2008 book fairs are scheduled for late September/early October and late April/early May 2008. Please contact Ms. Schrader at Cheryl.Schrader@dpsnc.net to help prepare for these highly anticipated events!
The concession stand operated during Duke’s home football and basketball games has been enormously successful for Creekside, earning over $10,000 last year! Volunteers are needed to help operate the stand during each game. Volunteer for as little as one game or for every game! The football schedule is as follows: 9/1 Connecticut, 10/6 Wake Forest, 10/13 Virginia Tech, 11/3 Clemson and 11/10 Georgia Tech. Volunteers will also be needed for basketball season and special events. Please consider helping out so that we can keep this vital source of funding up and running! Do you want to have some Springtime fun? Then join this committee to plan Creekside’s 3rd Annual Spring Carnival & Raffle anticipated to be held Sunday, May 4, 2008. This committee is active from December through May. Contact Shay at shaycharles@nc.rr.com for details on how to volunteer!
This committee is active during the fall fundraiser and the Spring Carnival and is vital to the success of our PTA! Committee members assist with packet preparation/delivery, order collection/distribution and securing business donations for the Spring raffle. This is a fun way to help out so please contact Nicolle Mercer or Pam Kearsley for details.
While money isn’t everything, it goes a long way to ensure our students’ success. This committee will research funding opportunities from local, regional and national sources to fund projects at Creekside such as the addition of Specialist faculty in technology and science, school beautification and specific classroom/lesson plan related requests. You don’t need to be science-minded to join this committee – only a desire to help our children discover science is needed! This committee organizes speakers for in-class presentations, Science Festival and the student science fair. The 4th Annual Science Week will be held in early March of 2008. This committee will run the spirit store at selected school and PTA events, will coordinate t-shirt sales and will organize school-wide spirit days/weeks. The purpose of this committee is to recognize student academic and personal achievements. This group will work closely with school administration throughout the school year to prepare for quarterly awards assemblies and may develop new student recognition programs such as A/B Honor Roll Breakfast, EOG stress-busters, student spotlight, etc. This committee will be active throughout the year. Help the PTA stay informed on Durham County and State initiative that may impact the education and safety of our students. Current issues include proposed changes to traffic patterns near Creekside and the new home impact-fee. This committee will be active year round.

Are you a creator yourself, or do you simply have an appreciation for the arts? Then share your enthusiasm with our students by arranging for special events, exhibitions, and presentations from various forms of media including dance, art, music, etc. The sky is your limit! This committee would be active year round.
This committee is active all year and is dedicated to increasing family involvement at the school through various events and communication with families.
Everyone appreciates a warm welcome! Help us provide that to students, families, and staff who are new to our school community. You may develop such ideas such as a buddy program for new students, welcome packets for new families and assisting with Open Houses and other such events. This committee would be active year round, but particularly from March – September.
Be active and be healthy! That’s the message that this committee would get out to our children. You would help to arrange school-wide events such as Field Day and perhaps speakers and exhibitions related to physical health. This committee may also develop ideas such as incentive programs and rewards for healthy habits! This committee will be active throughout the year.
Good reading skills are an important foundation for every student, and at Creekside we would like to provide our children with the support and encouragement they need to become successful, enthusiastic book lovers! This committee would be responsible for developing incentives and other programming so that each student can reach their full reading potential!
Calling all parents with a green thumb or an eye for ways that we can keep our school bright and beautiful! This committee would be responsible for improving the landscape, play areas, and general appearance of our school. Won’t you lend us a hand (or a shovel!)? This committee would be active year round.
